MEETING OF THE CHIEF PROSECUTORS OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH AND THE IRMCT
04.05.2026. 11:16
The meeting parties discussed the work and plans of the Special Department for War Crimes in 2026, cooperation with the partner IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor, as well as the achieved results and other important issues in the field of cooperation between the two prosecutor’s offices.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the joint fight against impunity for war crimes, as well as the efforts that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is making to prosecute war crimes indictees that are inaccessible to the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The need for support from the IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor in this process was emphasized, given that there are several hundred suspects and accused persons in the countries of the region, which the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH insists on prosecuting, but can only happen with the active cooperation of the judiciary of the countries of the region, as well as the support of the Office of the Prosecutor in The Hague.
Chief Prosecutor Brammertz will address and report to the UN Security Council next month, where he will speak about the cooperation of the IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor with the prosecutor’s offices of the countries of the Western Balkans region.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
