INDICTMENT FILED FOR SMUGGLING ILLEGAL MIGRANTS

- MATEO MILIĆEVIĆ, born in 1988 in Imotski, Republic of Croatia, citizen of BiH and Republic of Croatia.
The defendant is charged with having attempted to illegally transfer five illegal migrants, citizens of the Republic of Turkey, who did not meet the conditions for legal crossing of the state border, with the intention of obtaining illegal property benefits.
On 16 April last year, after admitting them into his car in Mostar, the defendant drove the mentioned illegal migrants to the state border with the intention of illegally transferring them across the state border, but the transfer was discovered and prevented by members of the BiH Border Police.
The accused is charged with having committed the criminal offence of Smuggling of persons set out in Article 189 (1) of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with Article 26 of the same Code.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
