INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN SREBRENICA AREA

04.01.2022. 13:10
A Prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes has issued an Indictment against the following person:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN SREBRENICA AREA

- Milenko Živanović, born in 1946 in Ratkovići, Srebrenica.

This accused person is charged, as a General and Commander of the Drina Corps of the Republika Srpska Army and a participant in the Joint Criminal Enterprise, with planning and directing the activities of the Drina Corps units in a widespread and systematic attack directed against Bosniak civilian population in Srebrenica and Žepa, in 1995.

The Indictment alleges that, from March 1995 to mid-July of that year, the accused blocked the Srebrenica protected zone on several occasions, preventing it to be supplied, and ordered artillery attacks on civilians and targets in the Srebrenica area, in order to create unbearable living conditions and force civilian population to leave their homes and property.

The accused is also charged with artillery and infantry attacks on the population, which resulted in the deaths of several persons, as well as with attacks on the population that was  leaving Srebrenica and attacks on UN positions so as to render them incapable of protecting civilians. Furthermore, the said accused is charged with mobilizing all available vehicles and necessary fuel with the aim of forcibly expelling civilians from the Srebrenica area, as well as transporting captured men and boys who were forcibly separated to be captured and killed.

The aforementioned accused is also charged that the military and police units under his command took part in capturing several thousands of men and boys from the Srebrenica area, on the Bratunac-Milići road, and in their unlawful detention and transport.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be proving the allegations of the Indictment by calling a larger number of witnesses, as well as by presenting a larger amount of material evidence, including the documentation obtained in cooperation with the IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor and Tribunal in The Hague.
