IDENTIFICATION OF VICTIMS FOUND AT THE MASS GRAVE SITE IN TOMAŠICA, PRIJEDOR MUNICIPALITY, RESUMED IN SANSKI MOST

Today, on 05 March 2014, the process of identification of victims found while digging at the Tomašica site in Prijedor Municipality resumed in the Identification Center in Šejkovača, in Sanski Most.

As agreed with the victims’ family members, the identification process commenced on 14 February 2014, after the first results of the DNA analysis had arrived. The identification of victims will continue for the next two days.

The process was resumed because of the arrival of new DNA findings, which enables final identification of another thirteen victims of war crimes from the territory of Prijedor and its surroundings.

The finding and identification of these victims is an important process for the victims’ families, as they have been in search of their dearest ones for more than two decades, and it is also of paramount importance for the Prosecutor’s Office, since this constitutes evidentiary material for investigations and cases pertaining to war crimes committed in the territory of Prijedor and its surroundings.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is currently searching for information regarding additional micro locations in this area where more mortal remains of victims from Prijedor and its surroundings are expected to be found. The digging at this location will resume once new information on possible places containing victims’ remains have been collected.

The identification of victims is attended by an Investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
