CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH MET WITH MEMBER OF THE PRESIDENCY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
18.04.2013. 15:28The issues discussed at the meeting were strengthening of the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the strengthening of judicial and security institutions with regards to the European integration.
Chief Prosecutor informed Mr. Komšić about the recommendations of the structural dialogue on judicial reform between the EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which foresee capacity strengthening for prosecution of war crimes, as well as about the plans and activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH to strengthen its capacities, increase the number of prosecutors and move to a new building with adequate working space for employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
Mr. Komšić expressed his support to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in its capacity strengthening and efforts on establishing the rule of law.
It was jointly concluded that there is a need to ensure independence of those holding prosecutorial and judicial functions in BiH, as well as independence in appointment of prosecutors in accordance with the recommendations of the structural dialogue.
Chief Prosecutor informed Mr. Komšić about the activities on prosecution of cases of non-execution of decisions of the Constitutional Court pending with the Office.
Also discussed were the needs to strengthen cooperation between the BiH judiciary and police with its counterparts in the countries of the region, in order to effectively fight all forms of crime taking place in the countries of the region and across the state borders.
