REGIONAL OPERATION CODENAMED

12.04.2013. 15:09
Prosecutor's Offices and Police Agencies of the countries in the region have carried out their largest joint operation in the fight against international drug smuggling.

The activities involved hundreds of police officers who were working simultaneously and in coordination in four countries. Dozens of individuals were deprived of liberty. Eighteen suspects were apprehended in BiH and one suspect from BiH was deprived of liberty on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

By order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption within the Prosecutor's Office of BiH police officers of SIPA and RS MoI are carrying out joint activities.

Several dozen police officers are acting simultaneously in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, East Sarajevo, Bileća, Stolac, Trebinje, Ljubuško and other locations, where they have arrested 18 suspects and are still conducting searches on several locations.

Persons deprived of liberty are suspected of organized crime, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and other serious criminal offenses.

Large quantity of weapons and explosives were found and seized during the searches.

This action is the result of joint efforts of prosecutor's offices and police in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro, and coordinated investigation which has been conducted for about half a year.

Large quantity i.e. about 376 kilograms of Marijuana and a narcotic drug "Skunk" and about half a kilogram of Heroin, were seized during previous activities

Joint activities were carried out with the support of IPA 2010 Strengthening the Prosecutors' Network project, implemented by the European Union, as well as SELEC - Southeast European Law Enforcement Center located in Bucharest.

Following the raids and arrests, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and police agencies shall continue their activities on questioning the suspects based on which the Assigned Prosecutor shall decide on a motion for custody.

The joint operation "Šetač" /walker/, is the best organized joint cooperation to date, which has hit hard on the structures of drug mafia operating in these countries, and dozens of suspects were successfully apprehended regardless of the fact where they were located at that particular moment.
