A COORDINATING MEETING OF THE BIH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY DIRECTORS, THE ACTING CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE AND THE SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY OF SECURITY OF BIH WAS HELD IN KONJIC

Central to the meeting were the presentations on the functioning of the new information system for control of border crossing, the functioning of the system for lawful interception of telecommunications, as well as presentations on activities performed in prevention of terrorist threats, and analysis of the situation following the liberalization of visa regime for BiH citizens.

The meeting of police directors, representatives of the Ministry of Security and the Acting Chief Prosecutor of BiH Prosecutor’s Office, organized by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, was held in Konjic.

Representatives of the BiH Border Police presented to the meeting participants about the functioning of the new information system for control of border crossing (KPDG 2011) which will, in many aspects, improve the field of control and protection of state borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The recent conference on security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also discussed, as well as opportunities of improvement of coordination between the police and prosecutors when conducting joint police operations involving police officers from several BiH agencies. The process of informing all BiH institutions involved in security issues, and investigations of complex matters that are of importance to security in BiH were also discussed.

During the meeting the functioning of the system for lawful interception of telecommunications, and possibilities for improving the efficiency of this system when conducting investigative actions on multiple suspects were also discussed.

The Director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies in BiH informed the meeting participants about the agreement with police agencies on activities to be undertaken with the aim of coordinating activities in the future, in case of terrorist threats or threats directed toward facilities in Sarajevo that are protected.

The situation regarding compliance with visa-free regime in BiH, as well as the fight against the appearance of false asylum seekers in EU countries, was also discussed and the representative of the Ministry of security informed the coordination meeting participants about the activities carried out by the ministry along with police agencies, the Armed Forces BiH and members of EUFOR in the process of reducing the danger and assisting the population in coping with natural disaster and large snow fall in BiH.

The representatives of ICITAP have, inter alia, informed the meeting participants about the activities related to the process of training and education of police and prosecutors.

Regular coordination meetings of the Police Directors and the Chief Prosecutor include the following attendees:

-        Acting Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office

-        Director of the Directorate for coordination of Police Bodies in BiH

-        Deputy Director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA

-        Director of the  BIH Border Police

-        Director of the Service for Foreigners Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina

-        Secretary of the Ministry of Security of BiH

-        Director of the of Federation BiH Police Directorate

-        Director of RS Police

-        Chief of Police of Brčko District BiH

-        Representative of the Federation BiH Cantonal MoI Police Commissioners

-        Head of EUPM and  EUPM officials

-        Representatives of ICITAP and the U.S. Embassy in BiH.

Representatives of other police, security and judicial agencies in BiH shall attend the coordination meetings of the Police Directors and Chief Prosecutor, when necessary.

The meetings are organized pursuant to the rotation system by directors and head officials of the institutions involved in coordination.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH hosted the meeting in Konjic.
