ACCUSED ADEM KOSTRJEVAC (1961) EXTRADITED FROM USA TO BIH JUDICIARY
18.06.2020. 18:21Following his extradition to the territory of BiH, police officers of the Border Police and the Judicial Police of BiH deprived of liberty:
- Adem Kostrjevac, born in 1961 in Zvornik.
The Special Department for War Crimes filed an indictment against the above-mentioned person, after he had been discovered and located in 2015 in cooperation with partner US institutions and questioned as a suspect. Following the issuance of the indictment, he was extradited to the judiciary of BiH.
The Special Department for War Crimes was looking for the above-mentioned person who is charged that he, as a member of the Army of the Republic of BiH, committed the criminal offence of War Crimes against Civilians in the Zvornik area in 1992 by committing the crime of rape and sexual abuse of a Serb female victim.
The aforementioned rape and abuse caused the loss of the victim’s pregnancy, who was in an advanced stage of pregnancy.
Following his extradition, activities have been undertaken to order the accused into custody.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH expresses its gratitude to US partner institutions, US Department of Justice (DOJ), for cooperation and assistance in the fight against impunity for war crimes, as well as to partner police agencies in BiH, which participated in extradition activities.
The Prosecutors Office of BiH is looking for dozens of war crimes suspects for whom there is information they are abroad and is intensively undertaking activities to find them and extradite them to the judiciary of BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
