CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST THE SUSPECTS IN THE CASE CODENAMED ‘BORDER’

Having questioned the suspects, Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption in charge of the case has put forward a Motion with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking the measure of custody to be ordered against the following suspects:
  • CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST THE SUSPECTS IN THE CASE CODENAMED ‘BORDER’

1.  MARKICA GOJKOVIĆ, born in 1978 in Doboj, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia; 

2.  KRISTIJAN GOJKOVIĆ, born in 1997 in Brčko, a citizen of Bosnia and   Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia;  

3.  RIFAT ŠAČIROVIĆ, born in 1983 in Brčko, a citizen of Bosnia and   Herzegovina; and

4.  SAFET HASIKIĆ, born in 1985 in Brčko, a citizen of Bosnia and   Herzegovina.  

The measure of custody has been proposed against the suspects Markica and Kristijan Gojković for the reasons set forth in Article 132, items a) and b) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely, due to the risk of flight and the danger that, if at large, the suspects might hinder the inquiry, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accessories. In regard to the suspects Safet Hasikić and Rifat Šačirović, the measure of custody has been proposed due to the danger that, if at large, the suspects might hinder the inquiry, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accessories, or repeat the criminal offence or complete the criminal offense.

The aforementioned suspects have been deprived of liberty in an action codenamed ‘Border’, which was carried out by SIPA and the Republika Srpska Ministry of the Interior, upon the order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they are suspected to have committed Organized Crime in connection with the criminal offenses of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has granted the Motion of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ordered custody against the suspects.

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
