BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE REQUESTED CUSTODY AGAINST DRAGAN ŠEKARIĆ DUE TO RISKS OF FLIGHT AND INTIMIDATION OF WITNESSES

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has put forward a Motion with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina seeking measure of custody against the following accused:
  • BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE REQUESTED CUSTODY AGAINST DRAGAN ŠEKARIĆ DUE TO RISKS OF FLIGHT AND INTIMIDATION OF WITNESSES

- Dragan Šekarić aka Pive, born on 01 November 1969 in Goražde.

An Indictment was issued against the aforementioned person for war crimes committed in the area of Višegrad and the prohibiting measures of travel ban and prohibition from meeting with certain persons related to this case were imposed against him by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In view of the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina received reports and statements of witnesses claiming that the accused Šekarić had been travelling to the Republic of Serbia on several occasions and that he had been tracing and contacting certain persons in the territory of Kraljevo, Vrnjačka Banja and other places, as well as having taken into account the obtained information that he had threatened protected witnesses in the war crimes case, namely witnesses with pseudonyms S-2 and S-4 respectively, in the area of Goražde, and that such threats were also registered by the police of the Ministry of the Interior of the Bosnia- Podrinje Canton in Goražde, the Prosecutor in charge of this case has issued a Decision to file a Motion for Custody against this person.   

The custody has been proposed for reasons stipulated in Article 132, Items (a) and (b) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, or due to the risk of flight of the aforementioned accused person and the risk that this accused person, if at large, might hinder the investigation, conceal evidence or influence witnesses or accessories.  

The Motion for Custody has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the aforementioned accused person has been detained pending the Court’s Decision on the Motion of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
