THE AMBASSADOR OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANS VISITED THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Sweder van Voorst tot Voorst, visited the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH on 22 February 2012 and met with the Acting Chief Prosecutor Jadranka Lokmić-Misirača. This visit is a sign of the strong support of the Netherlands to the judicial institutions of BiH, primarily to the Prosecutor’s Office and Court of BiH

During the conversation the Acting Chief Prosecutor presented the work of the Special Department for War Crimes and the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption and informed the Ambassador about the challenges faced by this institution. They discussed the importance of the Prosecutor’s Office work in the implementation of the State War Crimes Strategy and process of accelerating the exhumations. 

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands stressed his support for the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of BiH emphasizing that 'professional, impartial, independent and responsible judiciary is a cornerstone of the rule of law in the country, as a basic element of a democratic society'. He stressed that ‘political interference in the work of the judiciary is unacceptable’. He further underlined that ‘the continued existence of state level institutions should not be questioned’. The ambassador praised the professional attitude of both national and international judges and prosecutors to withstand political pressure and personal threats.

Over the years, the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has donated over six million euro’s to the judicial institutions of BiH. On this occasion the Ambassador emphasized the importance of providing adequate resources and attention in conducting investigations and processing the cases related to war crimes, economic crime and corruption.

The Acting Chief Prosecutor Jadranka Lokmić-Misirača, used this opportunity to thank the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the support it has provided to the judiciary from its very establishment until now.
