MEMORANDUM ON COOPERATION BETWEEN PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BiH AND GENERAL PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF KINGDOM OF SPAIN SIGNED
01.10.2024. 12:44This document will allow for the improvement of mutual legal assistance and cooperation between these institutions in the fight against organised crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, cyber-crime, corruption, money laundering and other forms of serious crime, which pose a serious threat to the rule of law.
The Memorandum provides for the organisation of activities to strengthen and develop the capacity of prosecutors and professional staff in both prosecutor’s offices, as well as joint work on scientific research, seminars and conferences of common interest.
The agreed common goals will be achieved through exchange of information on the state of play and trends in criminal activities, exchange of information on the legal systems and legislation of both countries, consultations on legal issues, joint research and expert meetings on topics of interest to prosecutors, mutual visits of experts from certain fields in order to improve their knowledge and exchange experiences, establishing working groups for more efficient cooperation, planning joint strategies, as well as joint investigative teams and operations.
The signing of the Memorandum was organised within the framework of the EU4JUSTICE project, which is implemented with the financial support of the EU with the aim of harmonising the BiH judicial system with the European standards, and it was attended by the Ambassador of BiH to the Kingdom of Spain, HE Vesna Andree-Zaimović, as well as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to BiH, HE Maria Molina Álvarez Toledo.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
