The meeting discussed the work and activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the prosecution of war crimes cases, achieving regional cooperation in the fight against impunity for war crimes, searching for missing persons, cooperation with associations of victims and injured parties from all over BiH and other topics falling within the scope of work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the IRMCT OTP.

The officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH informed Prosecutor Brammertz about the plan and dynamics of working on cases, filing indictments and making prosecutorial decisions in war crimes cases until the end of 2024, as well as the activities for the implementation of the National War Crimes Strategy and the transfer of less complex cases to the prosecutor’s offices of both Entities and the Brčko District of BiH.

One of the topics of the meeting pertained also to the cooperation of the prosecutor’s offices from the region in the work on cases, in respect of which the officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH asked Prosecutor Brammertz and his office to assist in the further processing of cases in which there was a stoppage in the work due to procedural or other reasons, as that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is interested in the full development of regional cooperation in order to prevent impunity for war crimes in the region, especially cases against persons who fall under the Standard Designation “A” obtained from the ICTY OTP, and in which the suspects or the accused are hiding from extraditions in the countries of the region.

The Prosecutor’s Office BiH and the Special Department for War Crimes emphasize their full commitment to the fight against impunity for war crimes in the coming period, with the support of the IRMCT OTP as an international institution and a true partner in this area.
