INDICTMENT FILED FOR WAR CRIMES AGAINST PRISONERS OF WAR

- Šerif Patković, born in 1967 in Zenica, citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The charges against the defendant are that during the war and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he as commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of BiH acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Prisoners of War.
He is accused of personally and directly shooting a wounded HVO commander to death in the town of Dusina in 1993, who was wounded and incapacitated for combat after the end of the fighting.
The defendant is charged with having violated the rules of international humanitarian law and depriving the life of a prisoner of war, thus committing the criminal offence of War crime against prisoners of war under Article 144 of the Criminal Code of the SFRY.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
