- JOZO CIGIĆ, born in 1982 in Mostar, previously convicted, citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.
The charges against the defendants are that they, as members of an organised criminal group, were involved in the following criminal activities: the defendant Ivan Jovanović - in taking stolen vehicles in the territory of BiH on at least four occasions, hiding vehicles in prepared hidden locations, as well as in their illegal smuggling across the state border and handing them over in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, and the defendant Jozo Cigić - in alienating motor vehicles, hiding them, disassembling them and selling them in parts.
During the investigation, evidence was gathered that the defendants acted according to exactly defined and divided roles and tasks in the structures of the so-called “car mafia.”
The charges against the defendants are also that they, as members of an organised criminal group, perpetrated the following criminal activities: the defendant Jovanović, aided the commission of the criminal offence of aggravated theft by concealing the traces of the criminal offence and the items obtained by the crime, and the accused Cigić – broke in, entered by force or otherwise overcame great obstacles in order to come to property within closed spaces, took someone else’s property from another person, thereby committing the criminal offence of organised crime under Article 250 of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with the criminal offence of Aggravated theft under Article 287 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The indictment describes in detail the execution of car thefts and other illegal activities in nine individual cases that are alleged against the defendants.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is going to prove these allegations by calling 21 witnesses and submitting dozens of evidentiary materials.
The original indictment in the “Volan” case did not include these defendants because they were not available to the competent authorities and a warrant was issued for them by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the suspects became available and were handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, procedural conditions were created for filing the indictment.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation, which confirmed it.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
