BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE DUTY PROSECUTOR ORDERS NECESSARY INVESTIGATIVE ACTIONS TO PROCESS SUSPECTS FOR SMUGGLING DOZENS OF MIGRANTS
03.11.2023. 12:36While on his 24-hour duty service, a prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina received information from members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina that, on two occasions during the border control at the International Border Crossing in Orašje, two citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina were discovered while attempting to smuggle a total of 38 migrants of Afro-Asian origin in cargo motor vehicles and semi-trailers.
Pursuant to an order of the duty prosecutor, police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina will prepare a detailed report on the committed criminal offence and submit it to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina for further processing.
The collected evidence and migrants’ statements suggest that the found illegal migrants come from the territories of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Turkey, respectively. They have been handed over to the officers of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina for further handling.
Almost on a daily basis, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with their partner agencies, undertake activities aimed at prosecution of criminal offences related to illegal migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
