13.10.2023. 09:52
A regional meeting of prosecutors was held at the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH with the support of the U.K. Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina and it was attended by prosecutors from the state-, entity- and Brčko District levels of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as by prosecutors from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia and international experts for fight against organised crime.
The meeting was opened by Chief Prosecutor Milanko Kajganić and the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Julian Reilly, who emphasised the importance of the fight against organised crime, the importance of confiscating unlawful property gain, as well as the need for continuous work on strengthening the rule of law, for the benefit of all citizens in the countries of the region.
At the two-day meeting, the prosecutors discussed the challenges in working on cases with evidence from Sky and Anom applications, joint cooperation in the fight against organised and cross-border crime, as well as the possibilities of organising joint bilateral or trilateral meetings as a tool for joint cooperation in the fight against organised crime.
The practice in the fight against organised crime has shown that organised criminal groups in the Western Balkans operate in a coordinated manner in the territory of several countries, and that such forms of crime require a coordinated response, as well as good communication and cooperation between prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in the countries of the region.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
