After assuming office, Chief Prosecutor Milanko Kajganić, together with the administration of the Prosecutor’s Office, identified the issue of extensive archival material, which was not adequately taken care of and, as a result, the activities of solving and housing the material were initiated in accordance with the regulations regulating this area.

The issue of archives was present in the operation of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, both in terms of the lack of space and staff for the implementation of the aforementioned duties. At the very beginning of the institution’s operation, activities were not focused on this segment because extensive archival materials did not exist in the first years of the operation of the Prosecutor’s Office BiH.

After 20 years of the institution’s operation, as well as indictments filed against more than 6,000 persons for criminal offences falling within the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, a large amount of documents was created, which burdened the workspace of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

The initiated activities and their implementation created the conditions for the housing of materials in adequate rooms, according to the highest professional standards and with setting all safety and technical conditions for the preservation of documents important for the operation of the institution, as well as for the disposal of documents whose preservation is no longer necessary.

In the first part of the activities, the materials of the Special Department for War Crimes will be housed and in the second phase the materials of the Special Department for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption will be housed.

This way, the technical prerequisites are implemented, which are very important for the smooth operation of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
