The officials of the two judicial institutions discussed about the strengthening of the rule of law and about the prosecution of war crimes cases and cases of serious violations of international humanitarian law.
The IRMCT and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina prosecute cases of war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and these two institutions have good cooperation, primarily in terms of the use of ICTY/ICTY databases, as well as in terms of exchanging experiences in respect of the international standards for the prosecution of serious violations of international humanitarian law.
The conclusion of the meeting is that the goal of these institutions is the same, namely the fight against impunity for war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and bringing the rule of law and security to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
