EUROPEAN DAY OF JUSTICE MARKED IN THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
25.10.2022. 13:18At the beginning of next year, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark 20 years of work and existence, and in accordance with the adopted Communication Strategy, activities will be undertaken related to cooperation with the academic community, the NGO sector, as well as representatives of war crimes victims and all other persons who come into contact with the prosecutor’s office.
In its work so far, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued indictments against more than 6,500 persons accused of criminal offenses within the jurisdiction of the prosecutor’s office, of which more than 1,000 persons were accused of war crimes and serious violations of international humanitarian law. In war crimes cases, more than 13,500 witnesses, of which more than 2/3 were prosecution witnesses, testified in courtrooms and helped establish the truth. In this way the victims got the opportunity to tell the truth about the suffering that forever marked their lives and the lives of their families. The fight against impunity for war crimes, as well as the determined fight against organized crime, corruption, terrorism and other criminal offenses under the jurisdiction of the prosecutor’s office, will continue in the coming period, on the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
