MOTION FOR REMAND IN CUSTODY OF THE SUSPECTED CITIZEN OF PAKISTAN IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE
08.09.2022. 13:41The remand in custody was proposed for the reasons stipulated in Article 132, paragraph 1, items a) and b) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. due to the risk that the suspect could flee and the risk that he could obstruct the investigation, conceal evidence, and influence witnesses or accomplices.
The aforementioned suspect is under investigation, as an organizer, due to grounded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of Organizing a Group or Association for the Commission of the Criminal Offense of ‘Smuggling of Migrants’ under Article 189a and the criminal offense of Smuggling of Persons from Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.The aforementioned activities are a continuation of the operation "Istok-San", aimed at dismantling organized group for smuggling migrants, which in the previous period smuggled a large number of migrants originating from Pakistan and Bangladesh, from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the countries of the European Union.
These activities are the result of a months-long, thorough investigation conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with SIPA, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the RS and the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton.
The investigation is carried out in cooperation with the partner agencies of the European Union and Europol.
