ACTING CHIEF PROSECUTOR MEETS WITH UN HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

A meeting of the Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Milanko Kajganić, with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, her associates and officials of the UN Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

Considering that the focus of the visit of the high-ranking UN official is the promotion of human rights protection, the central topics of the meeting related to the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the process of strengthening the rule of law and protection of human rights of victims and injured persons.

The Acting Chief Prosecutor briefed Ms Bachelet about the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office in all areas of the operation of this institution, including cases of gender equality, prosecution of hate speech-related criminal offences, protection of the migrant population in cases of illegal migrations, and protection of victims, witnesses and injured parties in all cases handled by the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

Furthermore, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is competent under the legislation for criminal offenses related to the election process in BiH and the Acting Chief Prosecutor briefed the UN officials on efforts taken to protect the integrity, legality and security of the upcoming election process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is to take place in the coming months.

The common conclusion of the meeting is that the protection of human rights is a very important segment of the work of judicial institutions, as well as of the process of preserving democratic standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
