EXHUMATION AND SEARCH FOR THE MORTAL REMAINS OF VICTIMS FROM THE PAST WAR IN THE ZVORNIK MUNICIPALITY

An exhumation process has begun at the Baljkovica site in the Zvornik municipality, in which the remains of at least two people have been found.

Incomplete mortal remains have been found and the identity of the victims whose mortal remains were found will be determined in the subsequent process. The mortal remains will be transported to the premises of the JKP “Komemorativni centar” d.o.o. /Public Utility Company ‘Commemorative Centre’ Ltd/ Tuzla for further forensic and forensic-technical processing, as well as for taking bone samples in order to determine the identity of the victims through DNA analysis.

An investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is coordinating the exhumation and work of authorised officers in consultation with the prosecutor. Present at the exhumation site are also representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, Zvornik Police Department, as well as the necessary workers, and adequate mechanization of the Tuzla Commemorative Centre is being used.

The information on the location of the remains was obtained through the joint operational work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and SIPA within coordinated activities on the search for missing persons.
