EXHUMATION CARRIED OUT IN BRATUNAC AREA UNDER SUPERVISION OF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH
08.10.2021. 09:23A legal officer from the Special Department for War Crimes visited the Joševa-brdo site in the Bratunac area, where he coordinated the processes of exhumation and search for the remains of persons missing in the past war.
At the mentioned site, the remains of a total of five persons were found, for which the forensic pathologist stated that they were most likely females - three women and two children, which coincides with the statements of witnesses about the victims buried at the said site.
According to preliminary information, these are most likely the victims of Bosniak ethnicity who were killed in Bratunac in 1992.
The remains will be sent for further forensic processing, sampling, and identification through DNA analysis in order to fully determine the identity of the persons whose remains were found.
At the exhumation site, a representative of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH coordinated the work of authorised officials and the exhumation was attended by a forensic pathologist, representatives of the BiH Missing Persons Institute (MPI), necessary workers and machinery, as well as police officers of the Police Station Bratunac, who secured the exhumation site.
Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH participate, almost on a daily basis, in the processes of exhumations and search for missing persons throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
