CHIEF PROSECUTOR DELIVERS KEYNOTE SPEECH AT EU4JUSTICE PROJECT TRAINING ON COMBATING CYBERCRIME
17.06.2021. 16:35Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH Gordana Tadić, together with Deputy Chief Prosecutor Diana Kajmaković, participated through a video conference in a training organised by the EU4JUSTICE project in which international experts from the Republic of France also participated and which discussed the work of prosecutorial institutions, law enforcement agencies and judicial institutions in cases containing elements of cybercrime with a special focus on the methods of seizing cryptocurrencies in criminal investigations.
The training discussed the efforts of institutions to strengthen and enable their capacities to prosecute cybercrime, given that this type of crime often has international and cross-border elements and, therefore, international cooperation in their prosecution is needed.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina prosecuted criminal offences in several cases falling within its jurisdiction, which were committed through the misuse of high technology with elements of cybercrime, both in the fight against terrorism and organised and financial crime. Several international operations in the fight against cybercrime were carried out, including the one in a recently indicted case that related to the investigation of criminal offences in which cryptocurrencies were used.
The need for further training and specialist education in this area was also expressed.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
