INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS
10.06.2021. 08:51A Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following person:
- Nisvet Muharemović, born in 1992 in Bratunac, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina
This accused person is charged that, in March 2020, in Sarajevo, he transported several illegal Iraqi migrants who were staying unlawfully in Bosnia and Herzegovina, by a vehicle he was driving, which he did for an agreed amount of money as unlawful material gain.
The Indictment alleges that the accused transported the migrants towards Mostar, with the intention of their further transfer to the Republic of Croatia and then further to the EU countries, but he was detected in the commission of that criminal offence in the wider area of Mostar, by police officers of the Mostar Police Department.
The aforementioned accused is charged with enabling the unlawful stay of several smuggled persons on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina by transporting them, whereby he committed the criminal offense of Smuggling of Persons, referred to in Article 189, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it has been confirmed.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
