ON THE DUTY PROSECUTOR’ ORDER, SMUGGLED CIGARETTES IN THE VALUE OF BAM 30,000 SEIZED
01.06.2021. 15:32The smuggled cigarettes were discovered in a motor vehicle at the entrance from Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the settlement of Avtovac in the area of the municipality of Gacko.
The duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was informed by the Border Police of BiH that a larger quantity of cigarettes, namely 6000 boxes of various types without appropriate excise stamps and with an estimated market value of BAM 30,000, was found with the suspected driver, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is suspected of the criminal offence of illicit trade in excise products in violation of Article 210a of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After receiving the information, the prosecutor instructed the police officers regarding further investigative activities in documenting and prosecuting this crime.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, together with partner institutions and agencies, is carrying out activities in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to detect and prosecute persons suspected of illicit trade in excise products in large amounts, which causes damage to the budget and all citizens of BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
