The exhumation process is being carried out in inaccessible and rugged terrain covered with stones, at the location of the canyon of the Bistrica River, along the M18 road.

So far, fragments of mortal remains of at least three people have been found at the exhumation site, which will be taken and forwarded for further forensic processing and identification through the DNA analysis.

In addition to the investigator from the Special Department for War Crimes, the site is also attended by a forensic pathologist, representatives of the Missing Persons’ Institute (MPI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the necessary workers with adequate machinery, whereas police officers from the Foča Police Department and Kalinovik Police Station are securing the location and conducting forensic processing of evidence and the site.

The discovery of this location is the result of the joint work of the Special Department for War Crimes and SIPA aimed at finding information and data on possible locations where the remains of victims from the previous war are located.

Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina are participating in the processes of searching for missing persons and exhumations in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The exhumation process continues in the coming days.
