INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN VLASENICA AND MILIĆI

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following person:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN VLASENICA AND MILIĆI

-  Goran Višković aka Vjetar /The Wind/, born in 1954 in the municipality of Vlasenica, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is currently serving a prison sentence.

According to the allegations in the Indictment, the accused is charged with participating in the persecution of the Bosniak civilian population as part of a widespread and systematic attack against the Bosniak civilian population in the municipalities of Vlasenica and Milići, from April 1992 until the end of 1993, while he was a member of the Military Police of the Army of Republika Srpska – Military Post (VP) 7926 Milići.

According to the Indictment, on several occasions, the accused and soldiers known to him, uniformed and armed, participated in the unlawful deprivation of physical liberty of the Bosniak civilian population and their removal to the premises of the Vlasenica Public Security Station, the Municipal Court and the Sušica Prison, respectively, whom they subjected to other inhumane acts with the intent of inflicting serious injury to body or to physical or mental health to a large number of non-Serb civilians. In addition, he is charged with personally participating in the killings of eight Bosniak civilians, who were detained at the Sušica detention facility in Vlasenica.

The committed crimes caused great fear with the Bosniak civilians who remained living in the Vlasenica area after April 1992, as they feared for their lives and safety.

The aforementioned accused is charged with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity, referred to in Article 172, Paragraph 1, item h) in conjunction with items a), e), i) and k), all in conjunction with Articles 29 and 180 of the same Code.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will prove the allegations in the Indictment by calling 44 witnesses and forensic experts and by submitting dozens of pieces of material evidence.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
