29.10.2020. 12:15The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Gordana Tadić, participated in the opening of the permanent exhibition - Review of the Work and Contributions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which was held in the Sarajevo City Hall.
This permanent exhibition will significantly contribute to making the work and legacy of the ICTY in The Hague accessible and available to all victims, citizens, members of the judicial and academic community and all those interested in the work of this international judicial institution.
Since its establishment, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has had good and open cooperation and communication with the ICTY/IRMCT and its Office of the Prosecutor, through the exchange of information, evidence, documents, and continuous cooperation in prosecuting cases of grave violations of international humanitarian law.
Since the very beginning of its operation and for 16 years now, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through its Special Department for War Crimes, has been working on prosecuting war crimes cases, bringing justice to victims, and fighting impunity for war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
To date, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has filed war crimes indictments against almost 900 individuals, and in proceedings before the Court of BiH, final and binding sentences exceeding 3,100 years in prison have been handed down.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
