TERRORISM SUSPECT EXTRADITED TO BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA JUDICIARY
22.10.2020. 21:52The extradition of the suspect took place at Sarajevo International Airport, after which he was deprived of liberty and will be handed over to the case prosecutor.
The suspect Jahja Vuković, born in 1999 in Bihać, is under investigation by the Terrorism Section of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and is suspected of having travelled to Syria in 2014 and joined paramilitary formations of the so-called “ISIL”, which was declared a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council.
According to the evidence gathered, the suspect joined the “Al Nusra Front” formation, where he, together with other BiH citizens within the “Hattab” unit, took part in terrorist activities of this group, which included attacks on the population, murders, illegal detentions and other terrorist activities.
The collected evidence indicates that the suspect was a member of these formations until 2019 and until the final breakdown of the structures of the so-called “ISIL”, after which he hid in the territory of Turkey, where he was detected and deprived of liberty.
The suspect is under investigation for the criminal offence of organising a terrorist group under Article 202d (2) in conjunction with Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will be handed over to the case prosecutor within the legal deadline, who will examine the suspect and make a decision on further activities.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Terrorism Section conducted the operation with partner institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, within the framework of anti-terrorist activities.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
