A LARGER QUANTITY OF TOBACCO AND CIGARETTES SEIZED DURING THE SEARCH OF A VEHICLE NEAR TARČIN, AS PART OF AN ACTION CONDUCTED BY BIH ITA OFFICERS UPON THE ORDER OF THE BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Acting upon an order of a Prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, officers of the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH ITA) conducted the search of a vehicle, during which they found and seized about 120 kilograms of tobacco and about 3000 boxes of cigarettes, which had been put in circulation without appropriate excise stamps.
The market value of the thus seized tobacco and cigarettes amounts to tens of thousands of BAM, whereas and the amount of the evaded excise duties and taxes for which the Bosnia and Herzegovina budget has been damaged is yet to be determined.
A report on the committed criminal offence will be submitted against the perpetrators, while the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to work on the case.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the its partner police and law enforcement agencies are determined to prosecute criminal offences of financial crime that are committed during extraordinary circumstances.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
