CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST PERSON SUSPECTED OF SMUGGLING OF MOTOR VEHICLES
09.10.2019. 09:09Having questioned the suspect, the Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in charge of the case has put forward a Motion with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking the measure of custody to be ordered against Avdo Bureković, born in 1970 in Zenica, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom.
The aforementioned suspect is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and he is suspected of bringing a larger number of motor vehicles across international border crossings and to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he was doing for a longer period of time as a citizen of the United Kingdom, in order to acquire unlawful material gain. He was then selling those vehicles at car scrapyards and he thus caused the damage to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina on account of the unpaid tax duties for the import of the said vehicles. Accordingly, he is suspected of the commission of the criminal offence of Smuggling of Goods, as referred to in Article 214, Paragraph 2 as read with Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all in conjunction with Article 54 of the same Code.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
