EXHUMATION COMMENCES IN RIZVANOVIĆI NEAR PRIJEDOR
23.09.2019. 15:08At the exhumation site, human mortal remains have been found, which will be forwarded for further anthropological processing and identification.
At the site in Rizvanovići near Prijedor, exhumation process has commenced. The exhumation is being led by a Legal Officer from the Special Department for War Crimes, under the supervision of the Prosecutor in charge of the case.
The diggings conducted at the exhumation site revealed mortal remains which are presumed to belong to the victims of Bosniak ethnicity from Rizvanovići and Prijedor area.
The process of exhumation is being conducted under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with participation of officers from the BiH Institute for Missing Persons (MPI) and a doctor of forensic medicine, as well as representatives of the Civilian Protection and police officers from the Republika Srpska Ministry of the Interior who are securing the exhumation site.
The process of exhumation of, and search for mortal remains continues. Upon the completion of the exhumation, the mortal remains will be forwarded for further anthropological processing and identification of the missing persons via the DNA analysis.
Investigators and legal staff of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina participate in exhumation processes and in searches for missing persons throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina almost on a daily basis.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
