CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST PERSON SUSPECTED OF INTERNATIONAL SMUGGLING OF ARMS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENT
16.07.2019. 11:16Having questioned the suspect, the Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption in charge of the case has put forward a Motion with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking the measure of custody to be ordered against the following suspect:
- Alen Hrvatović, born in 1979 in Tuzla.
The aforementioned suspect is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and he is charged with international smuggling of a larger quantity of arms and military ammunition, which was intended for the illegal market of The Netherlands, but it was discovered and seized in Dresden, on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The measure of custody has been proposed for reasons as set forth in Article 132, items b) and c) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely, due to the danger that, if at large, the suspect might hinder the inquiry, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accessories, as well as that he might commit another criminal offence or complete the initiated criminal offence.
The aforementioned suspect is charged with the commission of the criminal offence of Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use, as referred to in Article 193 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
