MORTAL REMAINS FOUND AT LOKVICE IN IGMAN ANTHROPOLOGICALLY PROCESSED AND THEIR DNA SAMPLES TAKEN
21.06.2019. 15:36Following the DNA analysis in the forthcoming period, it is expected that the identity of the persons whose remains are found will be established. In the presence of investigators from the Special Department of War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, in the pathology department of the City Graveyard of Visoko, anthropological processing and autopsy of the remains of 12 persons recently found at Lokvice on the Igman Mountain was completed.
Samples were taken that will be sent for DNA analysis to determine the victim’s identity. A forensic pathologist, forensic anthropologists of the International Commission for the Search of Missing Persons (ICMP) to BiH took part in these activities and the process was conducted under the supervision of a Special War Crimes Department investigator who oversaw and coordinated the whole process.
Fifteen days ago the remains of 12 persons were exhumed from a mass grave excavated at Lokvice, on Igman Mountain within a joint operation of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, institutions and agencies involved in the process of searching for remains of missing persons.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
