CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST THREE SUSPECTS OF ORGANIZED CRIME AND SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS AS PART OF ‘TULIP’ CODENAMED ACTION
12.06.2019. 15:55Having questioned the suspects, the Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina in charge of the case will put forward a Motion with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking that custody be ordered against the following suspects:
1. Muhammed Zendi Muzafar, born in 1971, a citizen of the Republic of Turkey,
2. Babat Hadi, born in 1970, a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany,
3. Mohamad Kadr Karwan, born in 1987, a citizen of Iraq.
The aforementioned suspects were deprived of liberty in the area of Sarajevo, at which time vehicles and facilities used by the suspects were also searched and fourteen (14) illegal migrants from Syria and Iraq were found.
These suspects are subject to investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, since they are suspected to have been transporting, for a longer period of time, illegal migrants across the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and towards the EU countries, for which action they hired other persons as well.
These suspects are charged with the commission of the criminal offence of Organized Crime, as referred to in Article 250 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the criminal offence of Organizing a Group or Association for the Purpose of Perpetrating the Criminal Offence of Smuggling of Migrants, as referred to in Article 189a of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Motion for Custody will be forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the legally prescribed time limit.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
