MEASURE OF CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST TWO PERSONS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY AS PART OF THE CASE CODENAMED “TULIP”
16.05.2019. 14:38The measure of custody has been proposed, inter alia, due to the risk of the suspects’ flight, in view of the fact that they are foreign citizens who might become unavailable to the BiH judiciary, as well as due to the danger that, if at large, they might hinder the inquiry, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accessories (the latter relates to the first accused person).
These suspects were detected and deprived of liberty in the area of Gradiška, while they were transporting eleven (11) smuggled persons-citizens of Irak, in the vehicles rented from rent-a-car agencies.
These suspects are charged with the commission of the criminal offence of Organizing a Group or Association for the Purpose of Perpetrating the Criminal Offence of Smuggling of Migrants, as referred to in Article 189a of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in conjunction with the criminal offence of Smuggling of Persons, as referred to in Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Intensive work on this case continues.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
