EXTENSIVE ACTION OF BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE IN FIGHTING ORGANIZED SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS

Pursuant to an Order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been conducting activities of deprivation of liberty and searches at several locations, due to the commission of the criminal offence of Organizing a Group or Association for the Purpose of Perpetrating the Criminal Offence of Smuggling of Migrants, as referred to in Article 189a, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in conjunction with the criminal offence of Smuggling of Persons, as referred to in Article 189, Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.  
  • EXTENSIVE ACTION OF BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE IN FIGHTING ORGANIZED SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS

Pursuant to an Order issued by a Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption, police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been conducting an extensive action, carrying out searches and depriving suspects of liberty in the areas of Bijeljina, Brčko and Donji Žabari.

This extensive investigation is aimed at persons who are suspected, as members of an organized criminal group, to have smuggled migrants coming mostly from the territory of the Middle East, who were not fulfilling the conditions required for a legal entry to, stay in and transfer through, Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

Following their deprivation of liberty, the aforementioned suspects will be handed over to the Prosecutor in charge of this case who will question them and subsequently decide on further activities in the case.

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
