JOINT ACTION OF BIH PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE AND SIPA IN FIGHT AGAINST ABUSE OF OFFICE AND CORRUPTION CRIMINAL OFFENCES
07.12.2018. 10:54The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) conducted an action of deprivation of liberty and searches, as part of the activities aimed at prosecuting persons suspected of the abuse of office and corruption.
This action resulted in the deprivation of liberty of Darko Marčetić, born in 1974 in Prijedor, who has been employed as an Inspector of SIPA in Banja Luka.
He is suspected of acting in concert with persons who had made illegal import of sports medicaments and certain amounts of marijuana narcotic drug and abusing his official position to extort money from the suspects in order to illegally mediate in their protection against criminal prosecution.
During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect had abused the possibility of access to police and other records so as to take the data which he then used to extort money from the suspects.
After the deprivation of liberty of the suspect, facilities and premises used by him were searched.
The suspect will be handed over to the Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption in charge of this case, who will question the suspect and subsequently decide on further activities in the case.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
