INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY COMMITTED IN VLASENICA AREA IN 1992 AND 1995.
15.08.2018. 15:33Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against the following person:
- Rade Garić, born in 1963 in Vlasenica.
The accused is charged with having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War during the widespread and systematic attack by the military, police and paramilitary groups on the Bosniak civilian population in the territory of Vlasenica and its surrounding.
The accused is alleged to have, while acting in his capacity as member of the reserve force of PSS Vlasenica and later in the capacity of the Commander of the Reconnaissance and Sabotage Platoon of Drinjača, personally and directly participated in the torture, persecution, unlawful confinement, murder, rape and sexual abuse, and grave maltreatment of dozens of captured Bosniak civilians including minors during 1992.
The accused is also charged with participating in the killing of 23 Bosniak men after the fall of the Srebrenica safe area in the summer of 1995.
The accused is charged with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172 of the CC BiH, and the indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
