MORTAL REMAINS FOUND IN GOLUBNJAČA PIT. DIGGINGS RESUME
19.07.2018. 14:52An Investigator of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently in the field together with authorized persons for exhumation from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Alpine Team of the Police Department of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a team of forensic experts from the Institute for Forensic Medicine of Sarajevo, as well as with the police officers of the Canton 10 Ministry of the Interior, and he is coordinating the exhumation process in accordance with the order of the Prosecutor in charge of the case.
The mortal remains were found at a depth of about 60 meters and, after the digging out of mortal remains, an expert evaluation will be performed and the identification of the victims through the DNA analysis will be carried out.
The exhumation at this site has been ongoing for several days now and with difficulties due to an extremely inaccessible location and its great depth.
For the purposes of the exhumation work, the Department for Civil Protection of FBiH will be engaged to remove unexploded ordnance, and three hand grenades have been found in the pit until now.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with its partner institutions, continues with intensive activities in the search for missing persons at this location, as well as at other locations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
