INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST ETHNIC SERB VICTIMS IN THE AREA OF KONJIC
05.04.2018. 14:43Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes issued an indictment against the following persons:
- Zdenko Grbavac, born in 1967 in Sarajevo,
- Zeljko Šimunović, born in 1964 in Konjic.
The accused persons are charged with having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, while acting in their capacity as members of the Croatian Defense Council Konjic during the war and armed conflict in BiH.
They are charged with having personally and directly participated in the commission of war crimes during the widespread and systematic attack on ethnic Serb civilian population in the area of Bradina, Konjic and its surroundings. While armed with automatic weapons the two separated three detained Serb civilians from the column of captured Serb civilians in the center of Bradina.
According to the indictment, the captured civilians were then taken in the direction of the Orthodox Church in Bradina where the Accused Zdenko Grbavac, in the yard of one house, shot his firearm and personally killed the three men of Serb ethnicity.
The accused Zdenko Šimunović is charged with having participated, together with other persons, in the torture and beatings of an ethnic Serb prisoner.
The accused persons are charged with having committed the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172 of the CC BiH.
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
