EXHUMATION COMPLETED IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ZVORNIK
29.03.2018. 15:41Complete mortal remains were unearthed. The identity of the victim whose remains have been found will be determined in the subsequent procedure. The remains were transported to the premises of PUC ‘Komemorativni centar’ d.o.o Tuzla /Commemorative Center/ for further forensic and CID processing, as well as for collection of bone samples for the DNA analysis to determine the identity of the victim.
The remains will be kept in the premises of the Commemorative Center until the completion of the formal identification process and until the remains are handed over to the care and custody of the appropriate relatives of the identified victim or their representative.
The exhumation and work of authorized officers was coordinated by the investigator of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. Persons present at the place of exhumation were representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons and the International Commission for Missing Persons (ICMP), a doctor - forensic specialist, members of the CID of Zvornik PD, as well as workers who were tasked with the use of adequate machinery of the Commemorative Center Tuzla.
Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH are participating, almost on daily basis, in the search for remains and exhumations of war crimes victims throughout BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
