INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR GENOCIDE IN SREBRENICA

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against the following person:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR GENOCIDE IN SREBRENICA

-      Tomislav Kovač aka Tomo born in 1959 in Sarajevo, citizen of BiH and Republic of Serbia.

The accused is charged with having acted in his capacity as Commander of the Police Staff, Deputy Minister and Minister of the RS Ministry of Interior, during the widespread and systematic attack of the RS Army and the RS MoI directed against the Bosniak civilian population in the UN protected areas of Srebrenica and Žepa, within which the forced relocation operations of the entire ethnic Bosniak civilian population were carried out as well as capture, imprisonment and summary executions of almost all of the Bosniak men and boys  some 8,000 of them, as well as activities on hiding the evidence by excavating and transferring the remains from mass graves, where the accused Kovač commanded and kept under control all of the police forces involved in the commission of the crimes described in 13 counts of the indictment, thus making a significant contribution to the common goal of the joint criminal enterprise.

The indictment alleges that the police units under the control of the accused Kovač participated in the capture of Bosniak men and boys, their forced imprisonment, transport and mass executions in several locations, including the Agricultural community Kravica, Cerska, Cultural Center in Pilica, Branjevo Economy, locations in Sandići, Konjević Polje and other locations where prisoners were captured and where mass and individual shootings of captured Bosniak civilians took place.

The accused Tomislav Kovač is charged with having committed the criminal offense of Genocide under Article 171 (a) and (b) of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with Article 180 (1) and Article 29 of the CC BiH-

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
