INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES IN BRČKO AREA
26.12.2017. 13:48The accused is charged with having, during the war and armed conflict between the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska Army and paramilitary formations in the territory of Brčko municipality during June 1992, acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
According to the indictment, the accused is charged with having come to the victim’s family house in his capacity as a member of the "Red Beret" paramilitary unit threatened the life of and raped a civilian victim - a Bosniak female leaving her with persistent consequences of violation of bodily integrity and mental health.
Consequently, the accused is charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 142 of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
