INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST ETHNIC BOSNIAK VICTIMS IN THE AREA OF PRIJEDOR AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

The Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against the following accused persons:
  • INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST ETHNIC BOSNIAK VICTIMS IN THE AREA OF PRIJEDOR AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

- Dragomir Tintor aka Braco born in 1947 in Zecovi, municipality of Prijedor, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and

- Mićo Jurišić, born in 1956 in Hambarine, municipality of Prijedor, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The accused are charged with having committed the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172 of the CC BiH during the widespread and systematic attack of the RS Army and Police directed at the ethnic Bosniak and Croat civilian population in Prijedor and the surrounding area.

They are charged with having acted contrary to the provisions of international law, in the period from May to September 1992 while acting in their capacity as members of the  Police Reserve Station Tukovi, which operated within the Public Security Station Prijedor, and  having committed and assisted in the persecution of non-Serb civilian population on political, national, ethnic, cultural and religious grounds thus including killings, torture, rape, imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty and other inhumane acts committed with the intent of causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to physical or mental health.

The consequences of the committed acts of the accused were the killing of 12 Bosniak civilians, the rape of a Bosniak female, the taking away of more than 8 Bosniak civilians to Keraterm, Trnopolje, Omarska and Manjača camp, intimidation, physical torture and inhumane treatment, and persecution of Bosniak civilians from the area of the villages of Čarakovo and Hambarine and the entire municipality of Prijedor.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will seek to prove the allegations from the indictment by summoning 79 witnesses and expert witnesses and by tendering about 200 pieces of evidence.

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH.

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
