INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST VUK RATKOVIĆ FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF VIŠEGRAD
18.08.2017. 15:32This accused person is charged with acting in contravention of the provisions of the Geneva Convention relative to the protection of civilian persons in time of war, in the period from June of 1992 and until the end of the first half of January of 1993, during the war and armed conflict between the Army of Republika Srpska and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the territory of the Municipality of Višegrad.
According to the allegations in the Indictment, this accused person, as a soldier of the Višegrad Brigade of the Army of Republika Srpska, Military Post 7158 in Višegrad, committed the criminal offense of War Crimes against the Civilian Population in the territory of the Municipality of Višegrad.
He is charged with torturing, mistreating and beating a victim on several occasions, and with the rape and sexual abuse of this victim, thus inflicting severe physical and mental injuries upon the victim and permanent consequences due to the mistreatment, which the victim still suffers.
Due to all the aforementioned, this accused person is charged with the commission of the criminal offense of War Crime against the Civilian Population, as referred to in Article 142 of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
