MEASURE OF CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST THE SUSPECTS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY WITHIN THE ‘RECIDIVIST’ ACTION

18.08.2017. 15:29
After the questioning of the suspects, a Motion will be put forward with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeking the measure of custody to be ordered against the three suspects.
  • MEASURE OF CUSTODY PROPOSED AGAINST THE SUSPECTS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY WITHIN THE ‘RECIDIVIST’ ACTION

The measure of custody has been proposed for the reasons set forth in Article 132, items b) and c) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely, due to the danger that, if at large, the suspects might hinder the inquiry, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accessories, repeat the criminal offence or complete the criminal offense.

Custody will be proposed against the following suspects:

1.   Aleksa Krndija, born in 1962 in Jajce, residing in Brčko,

2.   Petar Krndija, born in 1994 in Mrkonjić Grad, residing in Brčko,

3.   Vojislav Žugić, born in 1981 in Sarajevo, residing in Brčko

The aforementioned suspects have been deprived of liberty in an action carried out upon the order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which pertains to the prosecution of persons suspected of the commission of the criminal offences of Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs.

These suspects are under investigation due to the suspicion that they, as an organised criminal group, participated in an international smuggling of narcotic drugs, which were most frequently smuggled from Serbia to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, or to the territory of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the process of investigation, seizure and deprivation of liberty of the aforementioned persons, a larger quantity of narcotics and evidentiary material was seized, as well as money which is suspected to originate from the drug sale.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues with intensive investigation in this case.

*Note on the principle of presumption of innocence

This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
