EXHUMATION CARRIED OUT PURSUANT TO ORDER OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BIH
25.04.2017. 14:25According to available information these are the remains of a person, victim of the 1992-1995 war, which was buried in the yard of a private house at the location of Odžak, Donja Presjenica. At this time there is no direct knowledge of the possible identity of the victim. Samples were taken from the mortal remains for DNA analysis and for identification purposes. The remains were then transported to the town cemetery ‘Miljevići’ in East Sarajevo.
The exhumation process and the work of authorized officials were coordinated by the Assigned Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. Other representatives that were present during the exhumation were representatives of the Institute for Missing Persons, a doctor specializing in forensic medicine, inspector and crime technicians of the Sarajevo Canton MoI and workers of the Town Cemetery ‘Miljevići’. The location was secured by police officers of the Ilidža Police Department, Trnovo Branch.
Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH are participating, almost on daily basis, in the search for remains and exhumations of war crimes victims throughout BiH.
This announcement does not prejudice the outcome of the criminal proceedings and does not violate the principle of the presumption of innocence. A person shall be considered innocent of a crime until guilt has been established by a final verdict (Article 3, paragraph 1 of the CPC BiH).
